New web site for Cyningstan
Sunday, 9th March 2014
Cyningstan has created a new web site for traditional board games. Based on the successful design for "Hnefatafl: the Game of the Vikings", the new site "Cyningstan Traditional Board Games" provide will provide not only a shop, but a repository of information about traditional board games throughout the world.
The last web site was launched only in November 2013. Though it looked more professional than its predecessor, its slimmed down content was focussed on sales. Many of our visitors missed the information provided by the previous web site, to which the new design wasn't suited.
So I decided to redesign the web site earlier than originally planned. The sister site, "Hnefatafl: the Game of the Vikings", has a simple but professional design, and it has been very successful both in attracting visitors and in selling games. So it seemed obvious to adopt a design that works - and it makes sense that the two sister sites should look and work alike.
Currently the web site includes information copied from its two predecessors. But there is scope for great expansion: there are many more games that can be added, and the information on each game can be reorganised and expanded too. I plan for each game to have sections on history, rules and strategy.
There are already some new additions to the site. I've adopted Jocly's embedded web games in place of the old Java applets which people were having trouble running in modern browsers, so it's easier to try out some of the games on-line - and it's a lot prettier too! There are also comments sections on almost every page.
So please come in, have a look around, and let me know what you think of the new web site. Its address is the same as the old one:
